You’re Still at the Beginning Ahmed was incredibly excited. He had decided to start a small perfume business. From the very first day, he kept telling his friends about his future profits, expanding his business, and opening branches in Sana’a and Aden. One day, he sat with his friend Khaled and said: “Next year, God willing, I’ll be one of the biggest perfume traders, and I’ll buy myself a new car!” Khaled laughed and replied: “Easy, man! You’re still at the beginning. You haven’t even sold your first bottle of perfume yet!” Ahmed ignored his friend’s advice and continued calculating his future profits before even getting started. A week later, he finally opened his shop and waited for customers. The first two days passed, and only one customer walked in. And guess what? He bought the cheapest perfume in the shop! Ahmed went back to Khaled, looking disappointed. “People aren’t buying anything! I think I’m going to lose money!” Khaled laughed and said: “Yesterday, you were planning to open several branches, and today you’re already thinking about closing the shop? Take it easy, Ahmed. You’re still at the beginning!” From that day on, Ahmed understood that everything takes time and patience, and that enthusiasm alone isn’t enough to make a business successful. Meaning of the expression: “You’re still at the beginning” is used to remind someone that they’ve only just started something and shouldn’t rush the results or judge the whole experience too early.
