Go Drink the Sea / Go Pave the Sea – Palestinian-Jordanian Dialect Raed owned a small shop. Next door, there was another shop owned by a man named Nasser, who was constantly interfering in Raed’s business and causing him problems. One day, Nasser stormed over angrily and said: — If you don’t move your merchandise from in front of your shop right now, you’re going to see a side of me you won’t like! Raed replied: — The merchandise is in front of MY shop, not yours, and I’m not blocking your way. What’s your problem? Nasser raised his voice: — You clearly have no idea who you’re dealing with! I swear I’ll make you regret this! Raed laughed and replied: — Go drink the sea! Nasser became even angrier: — So you’re not afraid of me?! Raed answered: — No! And you can go pave the sea while you’re at it! Do whatever you want. I couldn’t care less! Expression Meaning: Literally: Go drink from the sea / Go pave the sea. These expressions are used as angry, defiant responses to someone who threatens us or tries to intimidate us. They essentially mean: “Do whatever you want. I don’t care, and I’m not afraid of you!”
