Did it blow/burn, or not yet? — Yemeni Dialect There was a young man named Azzam, always in a rush, wanting to do everything by himself and quickly, and he didn't like anyone giving him advice. One day, he decided to invite his friends over for "Dabasa" (a traditional rice and meat dish) or a dinner cookout at his house, and he told them: *"Ani (I) will make the dinner all by myself, and I don’t want any help from you!"* Azzam went to the kitchen, lit the firewood and the gas, and started cooking while muttering to himself, feeling like he had total control of the situation. His friends were sitting in the majlis chewing qat, hearing strange clanking noises and the pot bubbling wildly from inside. One of the guys shouted out to him: *"Oh Azzam, did it qarah (burn/blow up) or is it still good?!"* Azzam replied while stubbornly putting on a brave face, the veins on his forehead bulging from the heat: * *"No, it hasn't qarah-ed yet, everything is fine!"* A little while later, thick black smoke poured out of the kitchen door, filling the entire apartment! The guys rushed into the kitchen and found that the food had completely turned into a charred, ruined black mass! They laughed and told him: * *"You went out of your way, spent your money, and ended up with a burned meal!"*
