Lebanese Expression: "Fayet bil-Hait" (Lost in Space / Oblivious) In a calm and quiet Lebanese village, there lived a young man named Tony. Tony was known for "always living in another world" and constantly being daydreaming and completely out of touch with reality; in short: he was "fayet bil-hait" (literally: crashing into the wall / completely clueless)! One day, Tony decided to surprise his fiancée by taking her out for a romantic dinner at a village restaurant. He went ahead, booked a table, paid for everything in advance, and thought everything was fully sorted. But because he was so distracted and mixed up the days of the week, he showed up at the restaurant on Thursday, even though he had originally scheduled the surprise and reservation for Saturday! Tony arrived at the restaurant, confidently opened the door, sat down at a table, and wondered why the place was completely empty with no one around except the waiter. He started bossing the waiter around and asking: "Where is the food I ordered? Where are the decorations and flowers?" The waiter stared at him in confusion and said: "Mr. Tony, what brings you here today? Your reservation and dinner are scheduled for two days from now, on Saturday!" Tony opened his eyes wide in shock, and instead of feeling embarrassed or flustered, he started arguing with the waiter, saying: "No, no, you guys are wrong, today is Saturday, I'm sure of it!" Confidently, he tried to walk right into the kitchen to check on the food himself, and literally bumped his head hard against the wall, walking through the wrong door in front of everyone! When the villagers and the waiter saw him talking nonsense and totally rambling, they laughed and said: "Man, this Tony isn't just fayet bil-hait (clueless), he lives in another world... he's been lost in the wall for a long time!" Ever since that day, the expression "fayet bil-hait" became a famous Lebanese term used for anyone you find completely lost and unaware of what's happening around them in the world!
