It went out of my mind- Palestinian-Jordanian Dialect Once upon a time, Umm Rami was always forgetting where she put her things. One day, she was getting ready to leave the house and said to her son: “Rami, I put my keys on the table. Go get them for me.” Rami looked around the table but couldn’t find anything. He said: “Mom, there are no keys here.” Umm Rami put her hand on her head and said: “Oh my goodness! I was going to put them here… but I forgot where I put them!” They kept looking for a while until Rami found the keys in the refrigerator next to the milk. He laughed and said: “Mom, looks like it’s not just that you forgot where you put them… they slipped your mind and ended up in the refrigerator too!” Umm Rami laughed and said: “You’re right! I forgot where I put them!” From that day on, whenever she forgot something, she would say: “It went out of my mind” Meaning of the expression: “البال” is used to mean the mind. So “راح من بالي” literally means “It went from my mind,” and naturally means “I forgot” or “It slipped my mind.”
