The proverb says: “The luck of the pretty falls down, while the luck of the ugly shines in the sky.”

There were two girls working in the same office: Lina and Wafaa.

Lina was calm, organized, and treated everyone with respect. If someone needed help, she would help them. And if a mistake happened, she would quietly take responsibility for it.

Wafaa, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. Loud, nosy, and always trying to be the center of attention بأي طريقة.

The strange thing was that life seemed to work completely backwards for the two of them.

Every time work pressure increased, it somehow landed on Lina’s shoulders.
Meanwhile, Wafaa once got a salary raise even though she was late every single day.

Another time, Wafaa won the company trip raffle—even though she had forgotten to put her name in, and someone accidentally wrote it for her.

As for Lina? Every time she worked harder, something would go wrong for her.

Once, she spent an entire week preparing an important presentation, and minutes before the meeting, the file got deleted.

Another time, she prepared herself for an internal job interview, but on the same day she got sick and couldn’t go.

One day, Lina was sitting in the small office kitchen, upset beyond words.

Wafaa walked in laughing and said:
“Can you believe it? My name got picked again and I won a phone!”

Lina looked at her without saying anything.

Then Amina entered—a wise older employee known for her experience. She saw Lina’s face and immediately understood everything.

She sat beside her and said:
“Life is like that sometimes… the luck of the pretty falls down, while the luck of the ugly shines in the sky.”

Lina laughed despite herself and said:
“Honestly, I think luck blocked me.”

Amina laughed and replied:
“Listen… luck comes and goes, but a good heart stays.”

At that moment, Wafaa was busy taking selfies with her new prize phone… and two seconds later, the phone slipped from her hand and shattered the moment she opened it.

The entire office went silent.

For the first time, Lina laughed from the heart.

The proverb “The luck of the pretty falls down, while the luck of the ugly shines in the sky” is said when we see someone with fewer qualifications, beauty, or abilities getting better opportunities or more luck than others.

For example:

* A girl who may seem less attractive than her friends but ends up marrying someone better than all of them.
* A person with fewer qualifications getting a better job than someone with many degrees.
