There was a carpenter in the village named Abu Al-Abd. His work was clean and precise, and everyone loved to hire him. Anyone with a broken door or a damaged window would go to him.
People used to say:
“If you want neat, high-quality work, go to Abu Al-Abd!”
But the problem… his own house looked like a horror movie
The front door? Falling apart—every time it opened, it made a terrible noise.
The window? Tied up with a clothesline.
The cabinet? Its door completely broken.
One day, his mother-in-law came to visit. She stood at the door and tried to open it… and the door came off in her hands!
She looked at him and said:
“Man!! Aren’t you a carpenter?!”
His wife shouted from inside:
“Tell him the proverb! Tell him!!”
The mother-in-law laughed and said:
“The carpenter’s door is broken!”
Abu Al-Abd scratched his head and said:
“Honestly, I fix people’s houses from morning till evening… but when I get home, I say: I’ll do it tomorrow!”
His wife replied:
“This ‘tomorrow’ has been going on since we got married in 2005!!! ”
From that day on, whenever people in the village saw him, they would say:
“You fixed everyone else’s homes… so when is it your turn?”
“The carpenter’s door is broken” means:
It’s said about someone who helps others or gives advice, while they themselves are in need of help or advice.
