على قد لحافك مدّ رجليك-اللهجة الفلسطينية الأردنية

كان في شب اسمه حسام، أول ما اشتغل وصار معه مصاري، بلّش يصرف ويبعزق هون وهون… يوم يشتري موبايل جديد، ويوم طلعات، وقعدات كل يوم.

أبوه نصحه وقاله:
“يا ابني، على قد لحافك مدّ رجليك… بكرا بتفلّس وبيبطّل معاك مصاري.”

بس حسام قال:
“يلا عادي، الراتب جاي كل شهر!”

ومع الوقت، صار يتداين من صحابه، وبطّل يكفيه الراتب لنص الشهر.

بيوم من الأيام، انزنق وما لقاش حتى يدفع أجار البيت.

رجع لعند أبوه وقاله:
“يابا أنا تورّطت…”

أبوه رد عليه بهدوء:
“مش غلط تغلط… الغلط تضلّ مكمل بنفس الطريق.”

ومن يومها، حسام صار يحسب كل قرش، ويقول:
“الراحة مش بكثرة المصاري… الراحة إنك تعيش ضمن حدودك.”

المثل “على قد لحافك مدّ رجليك” معناه:
عيش حسب إمكانياتك، ولا تصرف أو تعيش أكثر من قدرتك، عشان ما تتورّط.

There was a young man named Hossam. As soon as he started working and earning money, he began spending recklessly here and there—one day buying a new phone, another day going out, and hanging out almost every day.

His father advised him, saying:
“My son, stretch your legs according to your blanket… otherwise, you’ll go broke and run out of money.”

But Hossam replied:
“It’s fine, my salary comes every month!”

Over time, he started borrowing money from his friends, and his salary was no longer enough even for half the month.

One day, he found himself in a tight spot and couldn’t even pay the rent.

He went back to his father and said:
“Dad, I got myself into trouble…”

His father calmly replied:
“It’s not wrong to make a mistake… the mistake is to keep going down the same path.”

From that day on, Hossam began to count every penny and would say:
“Comfort isn’t about having a lot of money… comfort is living within your means.”

The proverb “Stretch your legs according to your blanket” means:
Live according to your financial ability, and don’t spend or live beyond your means so you don’t get into trouble.
