عصفور بالإيد ولا عشرة على الشجرة-اللهجة الفلسطينية/الأردنية

كان في شب اسمه رامي، كان بيشتغل بمحل صغير بوسط البلد. صح الراتب مكانش كثير، بس كان ثابت ومضمون. كانت مستورة معاه

يوم من الأيام إجته فرصة شغل بشركة كبيرة، وقالوله:
“الراتب أعلى بكثير… بس في احتمال التجربة ما تنجح.”

انبسط رامي وراح لعند صاحبه يحكي له.

صاحبه قاله:
“يا زلمة، فكّر فيها منيح… عصفور بالإيد ولا عشرة عالشجرة.”

بس رامي كان طموح زيادة، وقال:
“بجرب حظي شو ورانا مش خسران اشي!”

ترك شغله، وراح على الشركة الجديدة.

أول أسبوع كان كله وعود وتدريب، بعدين صار تأخير بالراتب، وبالأخير ما كمل العقد.

رجع رامي يدور على شغله القديم… لقاه اتعبّى بحدا غيره.

وقف على الباب وقال:
“يا ريتني سمعت الكلام…”

ومن يومها صار يحكي:
‏‎“عصفور بالإيد ولا عشرة عالشجرة”:

‏‎الأفضل إنك تتمسك بالشي المضمون في ايدك، بدل ما تطمع بشي أكبر وممكن يضيع منك كله.

The proverb says: “A bird in the hand is better than ten on the tree,” and it means:

There was a young man named Rami who worked at a small shop in downtown. The salary wasn’t high, but it was steady and reliable, and he was managing fine.

One day, he got a job offer from a big company. They told him:
“The salary is much higher… but there’s a chance the trial period might not work out.”

Rami got excited and went to his friend to tell him.

His friend said:
“Man, think about it carefully… a bird in the hand is better than ten on the tree.”

But Rami was overly ambitious and said:
“I’ll take my chances—what do I have to lose?”

He left his job and joined the new company.

The first week was full of promises and training. Then the salary got delayed, and eventually, the contract wasn’t completed.

Rami went back to look for his old job… but it had already been filled by someone else.

He stood at the door and said:
“I wish I had listened…”

Since then, he always says:
“A bird in the hand is better than ten on the tree.”

Meaning: it’s better to hold on to something certain you already have than to risk it all for something bigger that you might lose completely.
