Omar and the Lesson He Never Forgot
Omar was a smart and active boy, but sometimes he forgot how important it was to be polite to elderly people.
He thought older people were slow in walking and speaking, and that he was faster and stronger than them.
One Friday, Omar went with his father to the mosque.
At the door, he saw an elderly man trying to enter, leaning on his cane.
Omar sighed and said impatiently,
“Why is he walking so slowly? We’re going to be late!”
His father heard him and gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
“My son,” he said calmly, “this man has lived many years and worked very hard. Would you like an old person to be treated without respect?”
They entered the mosque, and after the prayer, Omar saw the same man trying to stand up but struggling.
Omar hesitated for a moment… then stepped forward and said,
“May I help you, Uncle?”
The old man smiled and replied,
“May Allah reward you with goodness, my son.”
At that moment, Omar felt warmth in his heart.
As they were leaving, his father said,
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young, honor our elders, enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong.”
Omar nodded and said,
“Now I understand. Respecting elders is not weakness—it is a good character that Allah loves.”
✨ Moral:
Whoever respects the elderly is honored by Allah and blessed in character and life.
