حكاية الغزال والسلحفاة والمرآة
كان في غابةٍ بعيدة غزالٌ جميل، سريع، يلفت الأنظار أينما مرّ.
وكانت في الغابة نفسها سلحفاة بطيئة، لا يلتفت إليها أحد، إلا لقِدَم عينيها وهدوء مشيتها.
ذات يوم، عُلِّقت مرآة كبيرة عند نبع الماء، جاء بها الصيادون ثم نسوها.
صار كل حيوان يمرّ، يرى صورته فيها.
وقف الغزال طويلًا أمام المرآة، أعجبه شكله، وراح يقول:
«ما أجملني! لو كان العقل يُقاس بالسرعة، لكنتُ أحكم أهل الغابة.»
مرّت السلحفاة، نظرت نظرة قصيرة، ثم همّت بالرحيل.
سخر الغزال منها وقال:
«ألا يعجبك ما ترين؟»
قالت:
«يعجبني ما لا أراه.»
ضحك الغزال، وقال:
«وكيف يكون ذلك؟»
قالت السلحفاة:
«المرآة تُريك شكلك، لا مصيرك.»
لم يفهم الغزال كلامها، ومضى يعدو في الغابة فرِحًا بنفسه.
وبينما هو كذلك، لم ينتبه إلى شبكةٍ خفية نصبها الصيادون…
فوقع فيها، وكلما تحرك، اشتدّت عليه.
مرت السلحفاة بعد حين، ورأته أسيرًا.
قال لها:
«أنتِ بطيئة، ضعيفة… كيف تنجين وأنا لا؟»
قالت بهدوء:
«أنا لا أسبق الخطر،
أنا أراه قبل أن أصل إليه.»
وبقي الغزال في الشبكة حتى جاء الصياد،
أما السلحفاة فمضت بسلام.
الحكمة
ليس كل من تأخر نجا لأنه ضعيف،
ولا كل من تقدّم هلك لأنه قوي.
أخطر شيء في الحياة
أن تُعجب بنفسك أكثر مما تُبصر طريقك.
والمرآة التي لا تُريك عيوبك،
تُريك هلاكك متأخرًا.

The Deer, the Turtle, and the Mirror
In a far forest, there lived a deer.
He was fast and beautiful, and everyone noticed him.
In the same forest lived a turtle.
She was slow and quiet, and almost no one paid attention to her.
One day, hunters left a large mirror near the water.
Every animal stopped to look at itself.
The deer stood for a long time.
He liked what he saw and said:
“I am fast and beautiful.
Surely, I am the wisest in this forest.”
The turtle looked at the mirror only for a moment, then turned away.
The deer laughed and said:
“Don’t you like what you see?”
The turtle replied:
“I like what the mirror does not show.”
The deer asked:
“What do you mean?”
She said:
“The mirror shows your face, not your future.”
The deer did not understand.
He ran proudly through the forest.
Soon, he fell into a hidden net.
The more he moved, the tighter it became.
Later, the turtle passed by and saw him trapped.
The deer said:
“You are slow and weak.
How are you free, while I am caught?”
The turtle answered:
“I do not run faster than danger.
I see it before I reach it.”
The turtle walked away safely.
The deer stayed in the net.
The Wisdom
Being fast is not the same as being wise.
Being slow is not the same as being weak.
The most dangerous thing
is loving yourself more than watching your path.
