A young man married a woman, and after three years of marriage, they still had no children. The man believed deeply in God’s will and destiny, so he and his wife decided to go to an orphanage and care for an orphaned child. They chose a boy and brought him home, where they devoted themselves to caring for him. Over time, they became deeply attached to him and came to regard him as their own son. A few years later, by God’s will, they were blessed with a biological child. Their happiness was overwhelming. They discussed what would become of the boy who had lived with them for so long, and they decided that he would remain with them and that they would raise both children together. As the years passed, the two boys grew into young men who became a source of strength and pride for their parents. The parents never treated them differently. The two brothers loved and understood one another, and they lived together happily. One day, the man and his wife went to visit a friend. When they returned home, they found their biological son crying, with his face covered in blood. The parents were furious when they learned that his brother had beaten him. They tried to find out why, but they could not discover the reason. The parents decided to throw their adopted son out of the house. After insulting and humiliating him, they told him, “Leave, and never come back.” The young man left with tears in his eyes and overwhelming sadness in his heart. He wandered through the streets and alleys, searching through people’s discarded food for something to eat. At night, he returned to the garden of the house and slept there, lying on the ground with only the sky above him, hoping that his father or mother might eventually take pity on him. But they did not. Days and days passed. He continued trying to apologize and begging them to forgive him, but nothing changed. They remained determined to keep him out of the house. One day, the father heard his biological son crying loudly in his room. He went in, embraced him, and asked, “What is wrong, my son? Why are you crying? Are you sick? Did something upset you?” The boy replied, “No, Father. The only thing making me cry is my brother’s condition. Every time I look at him, I see sadness and misery in his face.” The father angrily said, “He is not your brother, and he is not my son. Leave him alone.” The boy replied, “Father, what is hurting me is that I hid the real reason why he beat me so fiercely.” The father asked, “What was the reason, my son?” The boy remained silent for a moment, then, crying, said: “I was talking to him, and during our conversation, I wished that you would die or that some misfortune would happen to you so that I could enjoy your wealth. He became furious with me and started beating me mercilessly, saying, ‘You die and leave my father to me!’ He repeated it many times. Then he cried and told me, ‘If my father dies, I will die with him. I love him more than I love myself.’” The father was stunned by what he heard. He immediately ran toward the garden, calling out, “Where are you, my son?” When he reached him, he found the young man lying on the ground. He had died from hunger and cold. Moral: We should all be fair and wise in our decisions and never allow our emotions to control our judgment. Sometimes a person who is not related to us by blood may prove to be a better brother than our own brother, or a better son than our own children and relatives. How many children have disobeyed and hurt their parents? How many brothers have wronged their own brothers? How many relatives have treated us badly? A hurtful word from you may destroy the future of someone who loves you deeply and wishes nothing but good for you.
