In a quiet forest, there was a gentle dove living on top of a tall tree, caring for her little ones with love and fear. One day, a cunning fox came and stood beneath the tree, threatening her, saying, “Throw down one of your chicks, or I will pull this tree out from its roots by wrapping my tail around it.” The dove was terrified and believed his threat.

After a long moment of fear and sorrow, she decided to sacrifice one of her chicks so the others might live, and she threw one down to him, then sat crying in deep sadness. As she wept, a kind stork passed by and asked her what was wrong. She told him the whole story, and he said, “Do not be afraid. When he comes again, tell him to pull the tree out if he can,

and do not give him another chick.” The next day, the fox returned, shouting and threatening as before, but this time the dove gathered her courage and said, “Pull it out if you can.”
